Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffMay 9, 2012If you're upgrading your text editor, TED Notepad is worth a look--just be careful to avoid installation issues. TED Notepad looks similar to Windows Notepad but adds a host of tools to its File menu. Among other features, it can convert text case, reverse text, and count the number of words, lines, or paragraphs in a document. As a bonus, you'll find clip-management tools for easily saving and inserting text. On the negative side, the publisher's claim that the program doesn't require installation turned out to be incorrect, and by default the program replaces Notepad during installation, which could cause system errors. You have to uncheck the appropriate box during setup and select installation as a stand-alone program instead. Used as an alternative to Notepad rather than a replacement, this freeware text editor offers text-management tools that most users should find handy.
