Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffSeptember 2, 2015GetPDF's utilities let you do specialized things with PDFs without requiring Adobe Acrobat. Splitter Merger is an example. It's a handy tool that can split a PDF file into smaller files or save just selected pages or parts as new PDFs. It can also merge two or more PDFs into one document that preserves the look of the original file. You can preview its changes in Adobe's free Reader. This compact tool opens with a trial nag screen and the developer's typical interface, an efficient dialog with clearly labeled fields and controls. Although it lacks a Help file, it's easy to figure out, and there's a hyperlink to Web-based resources like FAQs and e-mail-based assistance. Operation is a simple matter of selecting files, filling in the appropriate information, and clicking Merge or Split, which advances to the next step's choices: page range and info for splits, or adding files to merge. Just select an output directory, and Splitter Merger does everything else. One feature we especially like is the ability to arrow up or down to set custom sequencing for a merged document that retains the overall appearance and feel of the original file. The Back navigation button is a small but welcome touch that speaks to an efficient design.GetPDF Splitter Merger is free to try for 15 days. It works in all versions of Windows from 95 to 7; we tested it in both Windows 7 and Vista. It can add specific functionality to your PDF toolbox, and we recommend it.
